Beetlelady: Cultivating Curiosity through Bug Education

  • Michigan State University Entomology 288 Farm Lane East Lansing, MI, 48824 United States (map)

Education and outreach changes hearts and minds, inspiring the public to care about the science of entomology. As the Beetlelady, Dr. Stephaie Dole reaches curious people in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond with her educational programs. She has developed classes for preschoolers through adults on a wide variety of entomological topics. Since founding Beetlelady in 2016, she has presented over 1,500 classes to schools, libraries, museums, and community groups. Inspired by MSU’s BUG House, her Pop-Up Bug Museum is a mobile exhibit that brings an entire museum on location. Using arthropod macrophotography and illustration, she hopes to show bugs in a new light and share their beauty of their diversity with the world.
