In Tha Kaek, we met Lane and Hienrich, who themselves had just met, and decided to go on a side-trip together to Tom Lot Kong Lo cave. The trip to the cave took more than a day, six hours of which was by boat on the Nam Hin Bun river.

The current entering the cave was so strong the boats had to be carried in along the shore. Cave entrance.

Caving party at entrance. The river runs for 4km through the cave and then opens up again into a picturesque valley.

The cave interior was mostly large, open caverns, but we did stop to see some stalactites and stalagmites on our way through. Afterwards, we were invited to do a home-stay at the Kong Lo village nearby.

Heinrich and Krishna relax for a bit. The village children were shy, but curious. Lane brought them out with a game of tag.

The village men were discussing their latest electricity bills. The house we stayed at was home to a family with three children.

I drew pictures for the kids and asked them questions in poorly-pronounced Laos like, "Are you married yet?"
